Irrbloss is making a special appearance among the Sägen yarns, and it's a stunner with basically any colour! Spun from 100% bright, lustrous Wensleydale wool, a very shiny and smooth fibre that captures every nuance beautifully. With 350 m/100 g, this fingering weight yarn will work very well for garments and shawls that call for fingering or light fingering yarns. It doesn't build much, but keeps it's smoothness even after a wash. Perfect for cool and light knits with a nice drape!
All yarns from Sägen are hand dyed by Lotta H Löthgren, using high quality acid dyes. The colourways are named after creatures, entities, details or ideas from folklore and old stories, and Sägen is the Swedish word for a certain kind of folk story. My aim is to create a palette of colours that are just as beautiful on their own as they are to combine, and that knitters and makers can return to over the years.
Irrbloss is the Swedish word for a phenomena that's common in many traditions: in English you know it as the will-o'-the-wisp, in German it's Irrlicht, in French feu follet. It's a bright light shining in the night, especially on bogs or mires, and when travellers follow it they meet a grim fate by drowning or getting lost. In Swedish folklore, the irrbloss is associated with lyktgubben, a creature believed to be the lost soul after a wrongful death, or a long dead land surveyor who cheated with his land marks and is now doomed to walk through eternity placing his land mark posts.
This is a special appearance and Irrbloss will not be in the regular Sägen lineup for the time being. A handful of colours have been picked out to highlight the shawl Höga Åsen from Erika Åbergs book Stickat från kust till strand.
